What is a Giclée Watercolor Reproduction?
(pronounced Gee'clay)
Giclées make it possible for everyone to own and collect Fine Art. The reproductions are created one at a time and the process is overseen by the artist, every step of the way.. In Giclée printing, no screen or other mechanical devices are used and therefore there is no visible dot screen pattern. The image has all the tonalities and hues of the original painting. They are an exact duplicate of the original art. This is not a poster or a print, this is Fine Art Reproduction.
Do Giclée printers use ordinary printers inks?
No. They use special light-fast inks, which, if kept out of the sun, will remain true for up to 25 years. The way the image is scanned is different also. The original is scanned directly on a very high resolution drum scanner.
What kind of printing paper is used for Giclée prints?
Giclée prints can be produced on any paper as you wish, and printers generally have several specific ones to choose from. I chose to print on to watercolor paper, as my original paintings are on similar paper, and I wanted the Giclée prints to be as close to the originals as possible, not only in color, but also in texture.
It would be unfortunate for the artist and the world if no one could view anything except an original piece.
The Giclée technology is so precise, you'll think you'll feel the brushstrokes if you touch the print!
